Principal's Message

Dear Newport Coast Elementary Families:

On behalf of the Newport Coast Elementary School staff, welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I hope your family had a relaxing summer and you were able to spend quality time together. I am honored to be the new principal at Newport Coast Elementary, and I look forward to meeting all of you and your children in the coming weeks.

Newport Coast teachers and staff are ready to launch into a new school year and focus on building leaders who will change our world! Students at Newport Coast are embraced in a supportive culture where students are challenged by a rigorous curriculum and provided with opportunity to engage in the arts both within the school day and through extracurricular programs.

Bring your personal device to school. In grades 3-6, our goal is that each of our scholars will bring a personal electronic device. Last year, we piloted this BYOD program with tremendous success, and plan to continue with it. Overwhelmingly NCE students and their peers nation-wide prefer to use their personal device. If you plan to purchase a device, please consider a Chromebook. More information about the BYOD program is located on our website.

Tomorrow’s future includes students using technology in creative and innovative ways. Thank you to the NCE Foundation for your commitment to the funding of a teacher to support technology instruction in the classroom. The NCE Foundation's fundraising allows us to decrease the student to teacher ratio and provides students with a smaller class setting during their school day. During these times, targeted instruction is provided to all children to meet their individualized needs

As a California Exemplary Arts School, we continue to invest in and develop our arts programs. The NCE PTA supports this with funding for Pacific Symphony’s Class Act Program, Art Masters, the National PTA Reflections contest, and more.  The NCE Foundation has continued to provide instruments, audio equipment, technology and more for our music teachers. In addition to an excellent district-provided music program, over twenty percent of our third through sixth grade students are involved in extracurricular orchestra and choir. There is beautiful music bellowing from our campus!

We are supporting our vision at NCE of a safe and orderly environment through our PBIS philosophy. Newport Coast students are Honorable Organized Wise Leaders (HOWL). This acronym has guided the development of student expectations and the student recognition program. This is our fourth year as a HOWL campus and we continue to ask for your support in the use of this language at home and in the community. Students are learning about how to make wise decisions in every situation.

I look forward to seeing each of you at morning drop-off, and at Back to School Nights on September 13th (Grades PreK, Kinder, 2nd and 4th) and September 14th (Grades 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th).

I’m looking forward to a wonderful 2017-2018 school year with all of our Newport Coast Coyotes!

Sincerely,

Julie McCormick,

Principal
