Dear Newport Coast Elementary Families:
On behalf of the Newport Coast Elementary School staff, welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! I hope your family had a relaxing summer and you were able to spend quality time together.
This will be a banner year for NCE! Our school community remains committed to our mission: All Students Learning at High Levels. Our mission is achieved at Newport Coast through our “professional learning communities. (PLC)” Through the professional learning community model, Newport Coast Elementary School is dedicated to maintaining a school culture that is focused on learning, collaboration, and results. In order for NCE to achieve our mission, we work in collaborative teams of teachers. A team approach allows for each child to receive the collective best of all the teachers, not just the best that one teacher has to offer.
The NCE Foundation has continued to provide funding for two additional teachers. These teachers provide additional support and/or enrichment to students across campus. These additional teachers not only lower the teacher to student ratio, they have proven to be integral in improved student achievement and essential in the support of our PLC work.
The NCE Foundation has provided the financial support for our second year of the NCE Four Year Technology Plan. Because of this support, additional computers were purchased for each classroom and put in place over the summer. The Media Center, with thirty-four computers, went online in the fall of 2011 with tremendous success. Each teacher uses a technology work station, which includes a teacher computer, document camera, and an LCD projector. These tools are in the classrooms and support our teachers in excellent instruction.
Newport Coast continues to experience a remarkable degree of parent and community involvement. The NCE PTA supports this involvement and supports meaningful programs for our coyotes. The educational experience for all students is enriched by the PTA’s support of Class Act, Art Masters, character education, classroom/school-wide support, and much more.
It is my great fortune to serve at Newport Coast Elementary School. Not only is the School recognized as a model Professional Learning Community School, NCE has recognized significant academic achievement growth among students, continues to make arts a priority, and remains committed to the less fortunate. Last year our school raised funds for the Pediatric Cancer Research Fund, donated to the Orange County Food Bank and the donated books, supplies, and resources to our sister school in Costa Mesa. Congratulations to our fifth grade students, as they generated enough donations to grant a wish for a child with cancer through the Make a Wish Foundation. We will continue to provide support and service to needs in our community and in the world.
I look forward to seeing each of you at morning school drop-off, the PTA meeting to be held on September 20th, or at Back to School Nights on September 19th and 20th. In the spirit of the Newport Coast Coyotes, we will continue to achieve great things and support each child to learn at high levels.
Sincerely,
Duane D. Cox, Ed.D.
Principal
